festa da luz

[2021 edition] Downtown de Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais | Brazil

Belo Horizonte’s Festa da Luz occupies and gives a new meaning to urbanness with art works that use light as raw material. Through video mapping presentations, site-specific lighting installations, and performances by artists from Minas Gerais, Brazil and abroad, Festa da Luz creates a singular engagement among art, technology and heritage. It also enables the audience the opportunity to experience art downtown, which creates a great public circuit of outdoors art and light.

The first edition of Festa da Luz took place in October, 2021. We presented an unprecedented circuit of public art downtown Belo Horizonte with six installations and three points of video mapping featuring 15 VJs in three iconic spaces for the architecture of the city. The festival also offered three free workshops to add to the circuit of public art. They were related to art, technology and reflecting on how to occupy public space.

festa da luz + sensacional

[2022 edition] Festival Sensacional, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais | Brazil

Festa da Luz and Sensacional partnered up to present the piece of art Drusa, by Manu Grossi and MIR. The idea was to provide an immersive and provocative experience during the festival, and the work enchanted with the possibility of the colors and scenery produced, since it consisted of five inflatables up to 16 feet in height in the shape of crystals that were controlled by people through hand gestures. It was possible to control colors, rhythms, and light patterns.

festa da luz

[2024 edition] Downtown, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais | Brazil

The third edition of Festa da Luz was carried out in May 2024. It was inspired by the concept of “becoming forest of the city,” created by Ailton Krenak. The event explored ways of connecting the forest thinking with a more sustainable, fair, and welcoming city for everyone. In an out-door art circuit downtown Belo Horizonte that reframes architecturally important historical places of the city, the visitors had the chance to check out video mapping presentations, site-specific lighting installations, and performances of artists from Minas Gerais, Brazil, and abroad.

Sponsor: Cemig and Lei Estadual de Incentivo à Cultura.
