[2024/2025 step one] Minas Gerais | Brazil

Pública was invited by APPA - Culture and Heritage to curate the Art in the Waters of Minas project, which carried out the painting of 18 walls and murals in 6 cities in the interior of Minas Gerais. The project sought to reflect on our relationship with water and nature, reinforcing the role of art as a connection tool. Six nationally renowned artists were invited: Bicicleta Sem Freio, Juliana Gontijo, Ramon Martins, Fênix, Bozó Bacamarte, and Luna Bastos; and the curatorship also selected 12 artists who participated in the open calls held in each of the cities where the project took place.

Arte nas Águas de Minas

[2025 step two] Minas Gerais | Brazil

The second stage of Arte nas Águas de Minas expands the project as an artistic cartography shaped through the relationship between water, territory, and collective imagination. Curated by Juliana Flores, the journey crossed Alfenas, Brasília de Minas, Teófilo Otoni, Frutal, Pompéu, and Belo Horizonte, bringing together six invited artists — Rimon Guimarães, Thiago Mazza, Mag Magrela, Ani Ganzala, Bonikta, and Yacumã Tuxá — in dialogue with twelve artists selected through public open calls: Cris and Desmedida (Alfenas), PH Arts and Abias Gabriel (Brasília de Minas), Maria Ramos Gazel and Ricardo Treze (Teófilo Otoni), Luka Ferreira “Bão Uai” and Gustavo Queiroz (Frutal), SNUP and SATIVA (Pompéu), and Ed-Mun and Kakaw (Belo Horizonte). In each city, murals and public workshops transformed Copasa’s reservoirs into spaces of encounter and shared creation, articulating distinct visual repertoires around water as a field of memory, sustainability, and continuity. By bringing together artists from different regions and trajectories, the project builds a plural reading of Minas Gerais’ waters and inscribes new layers of presence in public space.
